Duquesne University established its mechanical engineering program in 2024, with its first undergraduate cohort expected to graduate in spring 2027. As a new program, we have a unique opportunity to intentionally design a senior capstone experience that is closely aligned with the needs of Pennsylvania manufacturers. This proposal leverages that opportunity through a partnership with Astrobotic Technology, a Pennsylvania-based leader in advanced aerospace and robotics manufacturing. Two students will be supported through industry internships, followed by a cohort-based capstone experience engaging all four students during the 2026–2027 academic year. This project will provide students with early, meaningful exposure to local manufacturing challenges while strengthening workforce pathways within the commonwealth. The proposed effort also establishes a scalable model for long-term collaboration between Duquesne University and Pennsylvania manufacturers through industry-driven capstone design.
