Principal investigator: Lu, Fei
University: Drexel University
Industry partners: InductEV Wireless Charging
This project aims to study the high-efficiency and high-power wireless power transfer technology for fast charging of electric vehicles. This project will promote adopting electric vehicles and charging facilities in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, it will contribute to maintaining the leadership role of Pennsylvania in academic research and industrial manufacturing, specifically in the area of transportation electrification. Drexel University will investigate the next generation fast charging station utilizing wireless technology that is more convenient and user-friendly in the future market. They ultimately aim to develop wireless-based Extremely Fast Charging (XFC) technology. They will leverage the latest wide bandgap semiconductor devices (e.g., silicon carbide and gallium nitride) to increase the power transfer efficiency to exceed 96%, which is competitive for practical applications.
