Development of a deployable kiosk for laboratory sample handling within the manufacturing environment

Principal Investigator: Gregory Foy

University: York College of Pennsylvania

Industry Partners: MRG Laboratories and Airline Hydraulics Corporation

Throughout the previous three PMFI grant cycles, MRG Labs and York College of Pennsylvania have partnered to develop and implement a modular, mobile collaborative robot to perform multiple lab analysis processes. Processes that were previously bottlenecks within the production laboratory environment. The automation of these tests has allowed the laboratory to handle higher sample throughput, reassign laboratory personnel to higher value tasks, and offer a lower-cost analysis test-slate to reach more customers. With this system now effectively functioning within the lab, new work will focus on addressing the challenges associated with adapting this system for use within the manufacturing environment. This project will address the applicability of this system beyond the laboratory environment to identify the assets where they work. With these improvements, the automated kiosk system can prove to be applicable in other point-of-sampling applications such as medical diagnostic testing and forensic testing.
